E P I S O D E ELEVEN I wasn't really intending to move too far off the beaten track of writing craft and technique in this podcast, but recently have been feeling that a show dedicated to... well... dedication was in order. |

E P I S O D E TEN So, I finally podcasted the article on J.R.R. Tolkien that I was going to record about a month ago. I have had some computer issues, which is something of an excuse perhaps, but have also just been very busy. I suppose, also an excuse. Anyway, this is the MP3 recorded version of the text article I posted below.
ON TOLKIEN I initially thought that this would be a short review, a quick
note about an interesting biography on an author who no doubt most, if not
all, the readers of Ethel will have some interest in learning more about. |

E P I S O D E NINE I have a fear that the few individuals
(of clearly excellent taste... ahem) who are stopping by here will eventually
decide that this podcast is a waning effort. It's not, really... more of an
intermittent effort. I'm keen to keep it going... but... well...
intermittent. Yes. That'd be the word to keep in mind. |

E P I S O D E E I G H T It's been a while since my last episode went up here, but I did warn you that it could be intermittant... Anyway, this show is about characterization and how to approach making your characters think, act and speak in ways which distinguish them from one-another. |

E P I S O D E S I X Pacing is a skill that many aspirant writers either ignore or aren't even aware that they need to develop. This episode examines pacing, but also 'holding the reader's attention', which is sort of the same thing and sort of not... |

E P I S O D E F I V E What is a story plot? What are different ways of thinking about plots? Is plot the same as conflict or is there more to it? Is there even anything such as a 'right' way to plot. |

E P I S O D E T H R E E A discussion about the 'gulf' between conception
and execution. You may envision a story in a particular way, but when you
come to write it, the words don't always do what they were supposed to. |
